Writing Wednesday:Storytime 2

Wednesday

Happy Wednesday! It's storytime😆
Here's a story I wrote a couple of years ago.

This story came from my imagination and from my love of fiction

Enjoy!

In the town I live in there are these trees that surround us. No matter the time of day it is, there is always a dense fog hanging around the trees, giving it a dark and gloomy look.

No one is allowed to go near the trees. For as long as I could remember, no one even bothers questioning why they were there. It's as if everyone just accepted it.

Every time I ask my parents about the story behind the trees, they would quickly change the subject. The only person who would tell me anything about the trees was Grandpa who lives in the nursing home, a few blocks from where I live.

However, what he told was either very vague or something I already knew. Now every time I see him, he would just repeat himself.

But today was different.

My mom dropped me off at the front of the nursing home. I checked in and headed to Grandpa's room. I knocked on the door and waited.

"Come in," Grandpa wheezed through the door.

"Hey Grandpa," I greeted him as I entered. He was in the same gray plaid armchair dad had gotten him for his seventy-sixth birthday.

"How's it going Sonny?" he asked.

"Everything's good," I said as I went to a nearby plug and plugged in my GameBoy. Grandpa turned his attention to the window, facing the trees.

"You ever wonder what's over those trees?" Grandpa asked still looking out the window.

"All the time," I responded. Grandpa beckoned me to come over and stand by him. I put down my game and walked over. I stared out the window to see the trees looking gloomier than ever.

Despite the sun being out, the fog was stubbornly hung around the trees. All you can see were endless trees surrounded by fog.
"Never go," Grandpa whispered.

"Go where?"

"They protect us."

"Of course they do. I think it's time for you to go to bed Grandpa," I said. He has his moments of saying things that didn't make any sense. I helped him to his bed and tucked him in.

"Just be careful," Granpa muttered as he drifted into sleep. I walked back over to the window and stared at the trees.

The trees that been here since long before I had been born. The trees that have a fog around them no matter what.

I leaned closer into the window to see the fog. It surrounded the trees in a way that you couldn't see anything.

Could Grandpa be right?
Could the trees really be protecting us?
If they are what are they protecting us from?

Thank you for reading and tune in on Sunday!
